Kokomi Guide:
The Grand Strategist of Watatsumi

Introduction

Kokomi is a versatile Hydro unit who combines damage, healing, and Hydro application. She can be played as either an on-field driver or an off-field enabler. When used as a driver, her single-target DPS is significant, but not enough to carry a team on its own. On the other hand, by consolidating the driver and healer roles, she is easily able to bring on-field DPS with her on such teams to make these teams competitive. Kokomi can be used for consistent off-field Hydro application in Freeze or heavy on-field Hydro application in Bloom based teams.

Talents

Talent Priority

For a driver Kokomi, prioritize Burst > Skill ≥ AA
For an off-field enabler Kokomi, prioritize Skill > Burst > AA

Normal and Charged Attacks: The Shape of Water

Kokomi has projectile-type, ranged, Hydro Normal Attacks. Her Normal Attacks have a small AoE, but are generally unable to hit more than one enemy. Her attack string is a 3-attack combo. However, a C0 Kokomi will more commonly use the first two Normal Attacks followed by a walk cancel (N2w), which will be detailed later in this guide. Her Charged Attack is a standard AoE Hydro attack, which is primarily only used for its Hydro application. While her Normal Attack talent will contribute to her on-field damage, it ultimately does not need to be levelled as it will only be around ~7% more damage at level 9 than at level 1.

Elemental Skill: Kurage’s Oath

Kokomi places a stationary jellyfish, which deals AoE damage and heals the active character every 2 seconds. The jellyfish’s duration can be refreshed by casting Kokomi’s Elemental Burst via her A1 Passive. The jellyfish has no ICD, so it will apply Hydro to enemies with every instance of damage.

Elemental Burst: Nereid’s Ascension

Adds HP scaling damage to Kokomi’s Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, and Elemental Skill. This HP scaling is increased further based on Kokomi’s Healing Bonus after unlocking her A4 Passive. Additionally, her Normal and Charged Attacks will heal herself and teammates on hit. Kokomi also gains Interruption Resistance during this period. The damage of her attacks during her Elemental Burst will scale from both her Normal Attack and Elemental Burst talents. Lastly, Kokomi becomes Jesus and is able to walk on water.

A1 Passive: Tamanooya’s Casket

When Kokomi casts her Elemental Burst, the duration of her jellyfish is refreshed to 12 seconds. As this is a duration refresh and not a cooldown reset, the jellyfish must be active to take effect and this will not reposition the jellyfish. Note that the refresh cannot trigger set effects such as 4pc Heart of Depth or 4pc Shimenawa’s Reminiscence which trigger on Skill usage. With proper timing of Skills and Burst, her jellyfish can maintain 100% uptime.

A4 Passive: Song of Pearls

Additional HP scaling is added to Kokomi’s Normal and Charged Attacks to her Burst equal to 15% of her Healing Bonus. For instance, a Kokomi with 85% Healing Bonus would see an additional 12.75% HP scaling added to the HP scaling given by her Burst.

Utility Passive: Flawless Strategy

Kokomi gains 25% Healing Bonus but reduces her CRIT Rate by 100%. It is possible to build enough CRIT Rate to enable Kokomi to CRIT. This is not advised outside of meme builds.

Weapons

Sukokomon/Freeze/Taser without Sucrose/Not listed:

These teams either easily benefit from the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (TToDS) ATK buff, and/or do not utilize Kokomi’s DPS, making investment into her DPS with weapons such as Everlasting Moonglow or Prototype Amber a wasted resource. Sukokomon has Xiangling, who is able to snapshot the TToDS buff. Similarly, Taser teams without Sucrose have a high scaling Electro character to utilize the buff. Meanwhile, Freeze teams utilize high scaling carries such as Ganyu or Ayaka to benefit from TToDS while Kokomi remains mostly off field.

Taser (With Sucrose):

Kokomi takes Hakushin Ring in this case because she can consistently maintain the buff by proccing Electro-Charged, buffing herself and her Electro teammates. Additionally, Sucrose holds TToDS in these team comps. While Sucrose can buff allied EM more using Sacrificial Fragments, resulting in higher Electro-Charged damage, it is important to note that the team benefits more by stacking a high scaling Electro damage character such as Beidou with TToDS and Hakushin buffs over increasing the team’s Electro-Charged damage.

Bloom Trigger:

In teams in which Kokomi is being used to trigger Blooms, most of her DPS tends to be comprised of Core Explosions. As a result, is it better to use a high EM weapon such as Sacrificial Fragments or Fruit of Fulfillment in this case.

Mono Hydro/Hyper:

In these teams, Kokomi takes Everlasting Moonglow or Prototype Amber because her own damage is more of a focus of the team, and because her teammates are not easily buffed by other Catalyst options, namely Hakushin Ring and TToDS.

Artifacts

Kokomi generally chooses her artifact set based on her role in a team. Tenacity of the Millelith (ToTM) is generally used for off-field applicator Kokomi, while Ocean-Hued Clam (OHC) is generally preferred for on-field driver Kokomi. Kokomi can also run Gilded Dreams (GD) when focused on dealing damage through Bloom. This is most common in Fridge teams. There may also be niche cases in which Kokomi can use Deepwood Memories to support her team’s Dendro damage.

On-Field Kokomi

On-field Kokomi refers to a play style where Kokomi is used as a main carry or to drive other characters (ex. Taser). When playing Kokomi on-field, Ocean-Hued Clam should be used. OHC provides Kokomi with additional AoE Physical DMG during her Burst while she is on field. 32k HP is required for Kokomi to maximize OHC damage during her Burst.

Mainstats when using OHC should be HP/Hydro/HB, except when primarily used to trigger Bloom where she should run EM/EM/EM instead. Substats should focus first on achieving 160%-180% ER and then HP%. If you want to run Kokomi only in mono Hydro she can run 100-130% ER.

Note: While lower in team DPS, ToTM can still be used for on-field Kokomi to similar effect. Kokomi can also run 2pc Gilded Dreams + 2pc Wanderer’s Troupe (WT) or 4pc GD in Fridge teams.

Off-Field Kokomi

Off-field Kokomi refers to a play style where Kokomi is used only for her off-field Hydro application, healing, and buffing. Her Elemental Burst is only used here to refresh her Elemental Skill, and she is then immediately swapped out. When playing off-field Kokomi, Tenacity of the Millelith (ToTM) should be used. ToTM provides the entire team 20% attack. With proper Elemental Burst management to utilize Kokomi’s A1, this buff can maintain 100% uptime.

Mainstats when using ToTM should be ER/HP/HB>HP and substats should focus first on achieving 180%-200% ER and then HP%. Kokomi heals enough at low investment for your entire team to survive. Ultimately, the first goal of building Kokomi is to fulfill her ER requirements before focusing on substats or mainstats.

Note: While lower in team DPS, OHC can still be used on off-field Kokomi to similar effect of ToTM.

Bloom Kokomi

Bloom Kokomi refers to a playstyle where Kokomi is used to trigger Blooms using her strong Hydro application. This build is currently only viable in Fridge teams; however, this may change with Nilou’s release. 4pc Gilded Dreams and 4pc OHC are both viable options here. If using OHC, it is important to look for ER and HP% in the substats.

Mainstats when building for Bloom should be EM/EM/EM or ER/EM/EM if you cannot meet ER requirements.

Note: While lower in team DPS, you can still use 4pc ToTM. However, you still have to maintain EM/EM/EM so you cannot use a standard build on her. 2pc Wanderer’s Troupe and 2pc Gilded Dreams will also work if your substats are better on that set. Ultimately, the first goal of building Kokomi is to fulfill her ER requirements before focusing on substats or mainstats.

Teams

Taser

Taser is focused on Kokomi driving an off-field Electro DPS such as Yae or Beidou. Kokomi provides on-field damage, healing and buffing in the form of TToDS or Hakushin Ring. As Yae’s and Beidou’s Bursts hold significant cost and damage, an Electro battery is required. Lastly, there is a spot for a flex unit. This unit is generally Anemo due to their high buffing capabilities and grouping. A Dendro character that applies Dendro from off field can be used here for Aggravate and Bloom, however, the quicken uptime will be shortened as a result of Kokomi proccing Blooms off the quicken Aura. Furthermore, Hyperbloom would be triggered inconsistently as a result of the targeting mechanics of the Electro characters typically used in this team.

Taser Units

Kokomi

Description:

  • Provides on-field damage, healing and buffing in the form of TToDS or Hakushin Ring

Example Rotations

Taser rotations can be split into two phases: set-up and Kokomi on-field. During the set up phase you’ll use Kokomi’s E, Oz; set up your Electro DPS; Swirl Electro and Hydro. In Beidou teams you can start with Kokomi’s Skill and still have enough time to pull off the refresh; however, in Yae teams you’ll have to set up Yae’s totems before placing Kokomi’s Skill if you want to use her Burst and get Kokomi’s Skill refresh off.

Sukokomon

Sukokomon is a very specific team which leverages chain reactions for DPS. It excels in AoE, and is considered to be one of the hardest teams in the game to pilot successfully. One of the main features of this team is Swirling Pyro off of Guoba. When Guoba has an exclamation point over his head, he has a Pyro Aura on himself, which can be Swirled onto enemies using Sucrose’s Skill. The timing required to achieve this Swirl is a large contributor to the high Skill floor of this team. Sucrose utilizes the Pyro off the Guoba Swirl to react with the Electro-Charged Aura (Hydro + Electro) on enemies to allow the Pyro Swirl to be Vaporized and Overloaded, dealing massive AoE damage. Sucrose’s high EM allows these reactions to do high damage.

Sukokomon Units

Freeze

Freeze is a team focused around using a Cryo DPS in conjunction with a Hydro support, a Cryo Battery and typically an Anemo support unit. This guide focuses on the two most popular and powerful Cryo DPS characters: Ayaka and Ganyu. Both of these characters are Burst dependent Cryo DPS who utilize Freeze and an Anemo grouper to allow their Bursts to hit multiple targets along with utilizing Blizzard Strayer’s 4pc set bonus (+20% CR while enemies are afflicted with Cryo, +20% CR while frozen). Kokomi provides high Hydro application and buffing through TToDS and ToTM, a second Cryo character provides Cryo Energy particles to fuel Ayaka and Ganyu’s Energy hungry Bursts along with Cryo resonance (+15% CR when enemies are afflicted with Cryo) and off-field damage, and a flex unit provides buffs or debuffs (typically through VV) and grouping.

Freeze Units

Kokomi

Description:

  • Applies off-field, AoE Hydro every 2 seconds with her Skill
    • Applies more frequently than Mona due to Mona’s Skill having a normal ICD, whereas Kokomi’s does not. Kokomi’s more consistent Hydro application allows for more consistent freezing.
    • Kokomi’s ability to refresh the duration of her Skill by using her Burst offers additional Freeze uptime.
  • Buffs the Cryo DPS character using TToDS and ToTM
  • Tends to remain off-field in favor of allowing the Cryo DPS to take field time
  • Consolidation of Hydro application and healing allows for a more offensive Cryo battery such as Shenhe or Rosaria.

Gearing:

  • 4 PC Ocean Hued Clam
  • 4 PC Tenacity of the Millelith
  • TToDS

Cryo DPS

Description:

  • Burst based AoE Cryo DPS
    • AoE of Burst is small so wants an Anemo support and Freeze to consistently hit enemies
    • 80 Energy cost Burst typically requires use of a battery (Diona, Kaeya, Rosaria, Shenhe, Venti A4) and building of ER
  • NA and CA can deal high damage
  • Burst snapshots, so requires all buffs (TToDS, Kazuha, Noblesse etc.) to be active before Burst
  • 4 PC Blizzard Strayer
  • 2 PC Blizzard Strayer/2 PC ATK
  • 2x 2 PC ATK
  • Mistsplitter Reforged
  • Any 5 star
  • Amenoma Kageuchi

Description:

  • Burst based AoE Cryo DPS
    • While her icicles typically hit only one enemy, with Freeze and an Anemo grouper Ganyu is able to hit multiple enemies and quadratically scale (the more enemies there are, the more damage Ganyu does per enemy—this is compared to linear scaling where the damage per enemy stays the same).
    • 60 Energy cost Burst requires a battery
      • Note: compared to Ayaka, Ganyu requires less Energy support and is able to run no additional ER in some circumstances (Venti A4, additional Cryo battery, multiple enemies)
  • 4 PC Gilded Dreams
  • 2 PC Thundering Fury/2 PC ATK/2 PC Emblem of Severed Fate
  • Polar Star
  • Aqua Simulacra
  • Amos’ Bow
  • Thundering Pulse
  • Skyward Harp
  • Mooun’s Moon
  • Prototype Crescent
  • Hamayumi R5

Cryo Support/Battery

Description:

  • The premier Cryo support
    • Highly buffs Cryo damage using her Icy Quills
    • Cryo RES Shred on Burst
    • A4 provides NA/CA or Skill/Burst DMG Bonus
  • Low particle generation in comparison with other units meaning your Cryo DPS will have to run a comparatively higher ER. This is somewhat mitigated by the use of Favonius Lance.
  • 2x 2 PC ATK
  • 2 PC Blizzard Strayer
  • 2 PC Noblesse Oblige
  • Calamity Queller
  • Any 5 star
  • Favonius Lance

Description:

  • Provides healing and shielding; however, this is redundant as Kokomi already provides ample survivability. If you wish to run Diona, you would be better off running Mona instead of Kokomi.
  • Particle generation on her Hold Elemental Skill in conjunction with Favonius/Sacrificial bow makes her a potent battery
    • Due to her Hold Elemental Skill doing 5 instances of damage, both favonius and sacrificial are nearly guaranteed to trigger
  • 4 PC Noblesse Oblige
  • 2 PC Tenacity of the MIllelith/2 PC Healing Bonus
  • 4 PC Maiden Beloved
  • Elegy for the End
  • Sacrificial Bow
  • Favonius Bow

Description:

  • Powerful off-field Sub DPS
  • High particle generation
  • Her CRIT Rate buff is somewhat redundant due to the high CRIT Rate already offered by 4pc Blizzard Strayer, Cryo resonance and Ganyu A4.
  • 4 PC Blizzard Strayer
  • 4 PC Noblesse Oblige
  • 2 PC Blizzard Strayer/2 PC ATK
  • 2x 2 PC ATK
  • Any 5 star
  • Favonius Lance

Description:

  • Similar to Rosaria in many aspects; both provide off-field DPS along with high particle generation
  • Kaeya trades some off-field damage for higher particle generation via his A4.
  • 4 PC Blizzard Strayer
  • 4 PC Noblesse Oblige
  • 2 PC Blizzard Strayer/2 PC ATK
  • 2x 2 PC ATK
  • Any 5 star
  • Sacrificial Sword
  • Favonius Sword

Description:

  • Refer back to previous Cryo DPS section.
  • Both can be run in the same team, but the lack of a proper battery means both will have to run higher ER.

Anemo

Description:

  • Short five star Anemo boys are the premier flex option– they provide RES Shred and grouping. Ayaka is heavily dependent on their grouping due to her ult’s small AoE while Ganyu’s Burst is able to quadratically scale.
  • One of the top two supports in Freeze alongside Venti
    • Trades Venti’s Energy refund for an Elemental DMG Bonus buff.
  • 4 PC Viridescent Venerer
  • Freedom Sworn
  • Xiphos’ Moonlight
  • Iron Sting
  • Favonius Sword
  • Sacrificial Sword

Description:

  • Alternative option for VV RES Shred and enemy grouping
  • One of the top two supports in Freeze alongside Kazuha
    • Trades Kazuha’s Elemental DMG Bonus for an Energy refund for your Cryo DPS
    • Stronger grouping than Kazuha; this allows Venti to thrive in multiple target situations but does noticeably worse in single-target situations
    • Tight grouping offered by Venti’s Burst enables quadratic scaling of Cryo Swirls, making his DPS especially high against larger numbers of enemies
  • His Burst’s small AoE and lack of pull on bosses means that it hits unreliably on bosses. This can result in a lack of absorption and consequently Energy refund along with a significant dip in his personal damage.
  • 4 PC Viridescent Venerer
  • Elegy for the End
  • Any 5 star
  • The Stringless
  • Favonius Bow
  • Sacrificial Bow

Description:

  • Provides RES Shred but no other significant buffs unless she has her C6.
    • Sucrose’s EM is useless in Freeze.
    • C6 provides a 20% Cryo DMG buff if her Burst absorbs Cryo.
  • Despite being a grouper, Sucrose’s grouping is weaker than Kazuha’s or Venti’s. While it still helps with Ayaka and Ganyu’s Burst, Sucrose’s grouping can oftentimes fall flat.
  • Sucrose can hold TTDS but this is mostly redundant as Kokomi will already be holding it
    • If you also run Shenhe on the team, Sucrose can pass TTDS to her and buff the potency of her Icy Quills.
  • 4 PC Viridescent Venerer
  • TToDS
  • Favonius Codex

Description:

  • While Jean provides RES Shred, she provides no other significant buffs (she’s also not a short boy).
    • Jean’s healing is already covered by Kokomi.
    • Lacks grouping ability
    • Despite having no other supportive value. Jean is still a good support option purely due to the power of VV.
  • 4 PC Viridescent Venerer
  • Any 5 star
  • Anemona Kageuchi
  • Festering Desire
  • Favonius Sword
  • Sacrificial Sword

Example Rotations

Freeze team rotations require you to stack buffs for Ganyu and Ayaka’s Bursts before batterying them for the next Burst. In the batterying phase, a few things are important: funneling enough particles for Ganyu/Ayaka to Burst off cooldown and refreshing VV. During the downtime of the batterying phase you can use Ayaka/Ganyu’s Charged Attacks to fill in time. Kokomi Burst for jellyfish refresh is optional here. The rotation generally goes like this:

Cryo application > Anemo character > Kokomi > Cryo DPS Burst > batterying + Normal Attacks of Cryo DPS + reapplication of VV + Kokomi Burst (to refresh jellyfish)

Nilou Bloom

Nilou Bloom uses Kokomi to enhance Nilou’s Bountiful Core gameplay. Kokomi is the best character to fill the crucial healer role required to play Nilou teams due to her high healing output and off-field hydro application. In this team, she is able to run either her typical on-field build or an EM build. While a full EM build will offer more damage, her typical on-field build offers similar damage while maintaining her ability to heal significantly. Her healing amount is important to offset the self damage that Bloom causes. She is able to run Sacrificial Fragments to forgo building ER due to the lack of need for ATK% from TToDS in this team. Please refer to Nilou Guide for more information on how to build and use this team.

Mono Hydro

Mono Hydro utilizes Kokomi as a driver for the duo Yelan and Xingqiu. Kokomi, Yelan, and Xingqiu notoriously struggle due to their need for high ER, however in this team, all three can afford to run low ER due to the high generation of Hydro particles. This allows all three characters to trade ER for higher damaging stats such as HP%, ATK%, or CRIT. This team is also able to benefit from Hydro Resonance (+25% HP) due to Kokomi and Yelan’s damage both scaling off HP. As Kokomi, Yelan, and Xingqiu are all single-target oriented characters, this team’s damage is much lower in multi-target situations. Either Yelan or Xingqiu can be replaced with a buffer character of another element to form a Hyper Koko team, however, this archetype generally does not perform as well.

Kokomi

Description:

  • On-field damage dealer
  • Drives Yelan’s and Xingqiu’s Bursts with her Normal Attacks
  • Provides healing
  • Able to run 130-150% ER due to the high generation of Hydro particles

Gearing:

One of the only teams which runs Prototype Amber or Everlasting Moonglow as others in the team are unable to use TToDS well: Yelan scales off HP, the flex unit doesn’t do damage or scales off EM, and Xingqiu is unable to properly utilize TToDS due to his Burst’s inability to snapshot and mainly dealing damage near the end of the rotation.

  • 4 PC Ocean Hued Clam
  • Everlasting Moonglow
  • Prototype Amber
  • TToDS
Yelan

Description:

  • Single-target off-field damage dealer
  • Buffs damage of on-field character with her A4.
  • 4 PC Emblem of Severed Fate
  • 2 PC Noblesse Oblige/2 PC Heart of Depth/2 PC Tenacity of the Millelith
  • Aqua Simulacra
  • Favonius Bow
  • Slingshot
Xingqiu

Description:

  • Single-target off-field damage dealer
  • Provides Interruption Resistance
  • Can provide 15% Hydro RES Shred at C2
  • 4 PC Emblem of Severed Fate
  • 2 PC Noblesse Oblige/2 PC Heart of Depth/2 PC ATK
  • Primordial Jade Cutter
  • Mistsplitter Reforged
  • Any 5 star (except Freedom Sworn)
  • Harbinger of Dawn
  • Festering Desire

Description:

  • Kazuha is the premier support in this team because of his ability to provide Hydro DMG Bonus and VV RES Shred.
  • 4 PC Viridescent Venerer
  • Freedom Sworn
  • Xiphos’ Moonlight
  • Iron Sting
  • Favonius Sword
  • Sacrificial Sword

Description:

  • Worse than Kazuha
    • You miss out on Kazuha’s Hydro DMG Bonus for a 15 Hydro Energy refund. While this is useful, this team already has high Energy generation.
    • Venti’s CC is less impactful here as the characters in this team all do single-target damage.

  • TToDS
  • Sacrificial Fragments
  • Favonius Codex

Description:

  • Provides 20% RES Shred
  • Provides big shield; however, this is not that useful due to Kokomi’s and Xingqiu’s Interruption Resistance during their Bursts
  • Provides 35% Hydro DMG Bonus with 4 piece Archaic Petra
  • 4 PC Archaic Petra
  • Favonius Lance
  • Black Tassel
  • Any 5 star

Hyperbloom

Hyperbloom Kokomi teams utilize Electro absorption onto Anemo characters’ Bursts to trigger Hyperbloom. The absorption must be done before Kokomi’s Skill as there is a Hydro > Electro priority in absorption. Because of this, the time when most Blooms are being generated (Kokomi’s Burst) will not have the Anemo character triggering Blooms. This is a highly single-target oriented team.

Hyperbloom Units

Kokomi

Description:

  • Provides Hydro for Bloom procs, on-field DPS, and healing.

Gearing:

  • 4 PC Ocean Hued Clam
  • 4 PC Tenacity of the Millelith
  • TToDS
  • Everlasting Moonglow
  • Prototype Amber
  • Hakushin Ring

Electro Enabler

Description:

  • Applies Electro from off field to be absorbed by the Anemo character.
  • Deals significant single-target damage, especially with Aggravate, even if Quicken does not have 100% uptime.
    • Runs with a QuickBloom team instead of purely Hyperbloom
  • Energy self-sufficient
  • Oz prioritizes targeting enemies over seeds, so she does not steal ownership of Hyperbloom procs as easily.
  • 4 PC Gilded Dreams
  • 4 PC Thundersoother
  • 4 PC Thundering Fury
  • 2 PC Thundering Fury/2 PC ATK
  • 2x 2 PC ATK
  • Any 5 star
  • The Stringless

Description:

  • Applies Electro from off field to be absorbed by the Anemo character.
  • Deals significant single-target damage, especially with Aggravate, even if Quicken does not have 100% uptime.
    • Runs with a QuickBloom team instead of purely Hyperbloom
  • Unlike Fischl, Yae doesn’t prioritize enemies over Seeds meaning she can steal Hyperbloom procs from your Anemo character, which would also result in a loss of DPS for Yae herself. While she is still usable, Fischl is preferred for the Electro slot.
  • No second Electro character results in high ER needs.
  • 4 PC Gilded Dreams
  • 2 PC Thundering Fury/2 PC ATK/2 PC Emblem of Severed Fate
  • Any 5 Star (Except Moonglow)
  • The Widsith
  • Solar Pearl
  • Oathsworn Eye
  • Blackcliff Agate

Description:

  • Applies Electro from off-field to trigger Hyperblooms
    • AoE Skill damage makes her one of the best Hyperbloom triggers
    • Lower uptime than Raiden
      • 15s Skill CD makes it awkward to maintain Electro uptime
  • Healing is wasted as you’re running Kokomi
  • 4 PC Gilded Dreams
  • 2 PC Wanderer’s Troupe/2 PC Gilded Dreams
  • Freedom Sworn
  • Xiphos’ Moonlight
  • Iron Sting
  • Dark Iron Sword

Description:

  • Applies Electro from off-field to trigger Hyperblooms
    • AoE Skill damage makes her one of the best Hyperbloom triggers
    • Higher uptime than Kuki
  • Since Raiden is triggering Hyperbloom you can forgo running an Anemo character and instead run double Dendro for higher Bloom application
  • While her Skill provides a ~30% Burst DMG buff, none of the characters in the team particularly care about this buff.
  • Waste of Raiden potential to use her in Hyperbloom
  • 4 PC Gilded Dreams
  • 2 PC Wanderer’s Troupe/2 PC Gilded Dreams
  • Dragon’s Bane
  • Kitain Cross Spear
  • Moonpiercer

Dendro Enabler

Description:

  • Applies Dendro from off-field to enable Bloom.
  • Can buff Kokomi’s Hydro DMG with C6.

Gearing:

Builds for ATK, DMG%, EM and CRIT after fulfilling ER requirements; however, DMC’s damage is negligible so it’s not recommended to invest much into them. Five-star weapons can provide them damage but it’s recommended to run Favonius for greater team buffs instead.

  • 4 PC Deepwood Memories
  • Any 5 star
  • Sapwood Blade
  • Favonius Sword
  • Sacrificial Sword

Description:

  • Applies Dendro from off-field to enable Bloom.
  • Lower Dendro application uptime than DMC

Gearing:

Builds for ATK, DMG%, EM and CRIT after fulfilling ER requirements; however, Collei’s damage is negligible so it’s not recommended to invest much into them. Five-star weapons can provide her damage but it’s recommended to run Elegy or Favonius for greater team buffs instead.

  • 4 PC Deepwood Memories
  • Elegy for the End
  • Favonius Bow
  • Sacrificial Bow
  • The Stringless
  • Mooun’s Moon

Anemo/Flex

Description:

  • Absorbs Electro with Burst and Skill to apply AoE Electro, triggering Hyperblooms
  • Swirls Electro to increase Fischl’s damage through A4 Elemental DMG Bonus and VV RES Shred.
  • 4 PC Viridescent Venerer
  • Freedom Sworn
  • Xiphos’ Moonlight
  • Iron Sting
  • Favonius Sword
  • Sacrificial Sword

Description:

  • Same role as Kazuha
  • Trades Elemental Damage buff for EM, which can still benefit Fischl’s DPS through her Aggravate procs.
  • 4 PC Viridescent Venerer
  • Sacrificial Fragments
  • Magic Guide

Description:

  • Fulfills the same role as the other Anemo characters
  • No buffing capabilities, but high Swirl DPS.
  • Energy recharge for allies is somewhat wasted since Fischl’s Energy needs are low if you’re using her.
  • 4 PC Viridescent Venerer
  • Elegy for the End
  • Any 5 star
  • The Stringless
  • Favonius Bow

Description:

  • If you’re running Kuki/Raiden as your Hyperbloom character, you can run 2 Dendero characters to maximize Bloom generation
  • Refer back to previous Dendro section

Example Rotations

Hyperbloom teams with Fischl/Yae require the Anemo character to absorb Electro on their Burst. This means that Kazuha/Venti/Sucrose need to Burst before Kokomi’s Skill. Rotations generally go like this: Electro application > Dendro EQ > Anemo EQ > Kokomi E > Electro refresh > Energy Generation by Dendro/Anemo > Kokomi Q

KokomiFischlKaedehara Kazuha DMC

Kokomi > Fischl E > Kazuha hEQ > Kokomi E > DMC EQ > Fischl E > Kazuha hE > Kokomi Q 6N2C

Gearing:

  • 4 PC Gilded Dreams
  • 2 PC Wanderer’s/2 PC Gilded Dreams
  • 4 PC Ocean Hued Clam
  • Fruit of Fulfillment
  • Sacrificial Fragments

Cryo Enabler

Description:

  • Burst based off-field AoE Cryo applicator and DPS
  • The best option for Fridge due to the long duration of her Burst.
  • Quadratic scaling makes her DPS especially high in AoE, which is where Bloom’s strength is already.
  • Requires some ER or Energy support from teammates to fund 60 cost Burst.
  • 4 PC Blizzard Strayer
  • 4 PC Emblem of Severed Fate
  • 2 PC Blizzard Strayer/2 PC ATK
  • Skyward Harp
  • Aqua Simulacra
  • Elegy for the End
  • Any 5 star

  • Fading Twilight
  • Favonius Bow

Description:

  • Burst based off-field AoE Cryo applicator and DPS
    • Less damage than Ganyu but a powerful free-to-play friendly option.
    • More consistent application of Cryo than Ganyu due to lack of ICD, but not really necessary.
  • High particle generation, fulfills her own Burst Energy cost.
  • Provides a CRIT Rate buff to your Dendro applicator and flex slot.
    • Not impactful as the Dendro applicator doesn’t do significant damage and the flex slot mostly likely focuses on reaction damage.
  • 4 PC Blizzard Strayer
  • 4 PC Emblem of Severed Fate
  • 2 PC Blizzard Strayer/2 PC ATK
  • Any 5 star
  • The Catch
  • Wavebreaker’s Fin

  • Can provide 200 EM at C6 to boost Bloom damage
  • Very low personal damage

Gearing:

Diona is usually built as a healer or shielder; in this team her healing and shielding are redundant so the primary focus is ER. She can use a 4pc Instructor set to buff Kokomi’s Bloom damage.

  • 4 PC Instructor
  • 2 PC Tenacity of the Millelith/2 PC Healing Bonus
  • 4 PC Maiden Beloved
  • 4 PC Ocean Hued Clam
  • Elegy for the End
  • Sacrificial Bow
  • Favonius Bow

Description:

  • Currently the best option for Fridge.
  • Provides sufficient off-field Dendro application.
  • Provides an EM buff for the on-field character (Kokomi), boosting Bloom damage
  • Provides a 12% Hydro DMG Bonus at C6

Gearing:

Builds for ATK, DMG%, and CRIT after fulfilling ER requirements. Stats other than ER generally don’t matter due to their low multipliers. Five-star weapons can provide them damage but it’s recommended to run Favonius for greater team support instead.

  • 4 PC Deepwood Memories
  • Any 5 star
  • Sapwood Blade
  • Favonius Sword
  • Sacrificial Sword

Description:

  • Lower Dendro application uptime than Traveler but still serviceable

Kokomi with Pyro

For various reasons which will be detailed here, Kokomi tends to not play well with Pyro-based teams.

Vaporize

Kokomi’s DPS is not high enough to warrant building a team around trying to Vaporize her damage. The best Pyro enabler we have in the current roster for such a team would be Xiangling. If Xiangling is to be on the team, it would be more beneficial to try to Vaporize Xiangling’s DPS.

Reverse Vaporize

If enemies are standing still, Kokomi theoretically can apply enough Hydro to enable Xiangling to Vaporize most of her damage. In practice, enemies will tend to move away from Kokomi, or the enemies which the player initiates against will be defeated, and another wave of enemies will spawn somewhere away from the player. As a result, Kokomi loses the Hydro application from her Skill due to her inability to move the jellyfish. Once Kokomi has to start chasing enemies down, it becomes difficult to maintain her Hydro Aura due to animation times and stamina restrictions. This makes Kokomi a subpar driver for Reverse Vaporize teams in practice.

Burgeon

Currently, no Burgeon teams that function at a competitive or near-competitive level have been discovered. This can in part be attributed to the need for very high Hydro application to avoid the burning reaction from taking over, which Kokomi cannot support.

Combos

N2D

Kokomi’s highest single-target DPS combo at C0. Also offers the most invincibility through dashes within her various combos, but uses a moderate amount of stamina. Additionally, it can be too fast for driving Beidou, causing Beidou’s Burst procs to be missed as a result of its 1-second proc cooldown. Should be used if the following are true:

  • Kokomi is C0
  • Kokomi is not driving Beidou

OR

  • Kokomi is driving Beidou and needs to dodge an attack

Note that, if it is being used while driving Beidou, a slight delay of about 1/6th of a second should be implemented in order to ensure the next attack can proc Beidou’s Burst.

N2w

Slightly lower DPS than N2d and Kokomi’s most technical combo to execute. Has the advantage of not costing any stamina, and is almost perfectly timed for driving Beidou. Should be used if:

  • Kokomi is driving Beidou

OR

  • Stamina consumption is a concern

Due to Kokomi’s high healing rate and moderate Interruption Resistance from her Burst, some enemy attacks can be tanked while performing N2w without concern. If a high knockback attack is incoming, N2d should be used to dodge the attack.

To perform N2w, watch the top of Kokomi’s head while performing N2. Kokomi will rise during the animation, then begin to descend again. As she reaches the bottom of this descent, input a brief walk in any direction, then repeat the N2 input, as shown in the GIF below. Be sure not to spam the NA inputs, as this can lead to buffered inputs, which will result in a slower NA animation. When N2w is performed optimally, Kokomi’s Catalyst should look like it flickers for a millisecond between N2w’s.

N3D

Kokomi’s most user-friendly combo to perform, and her highest DPS combo at C1 or higher. Timing of attacks will cause lost Beidou procs. Recommended if:

  • Kokomi is C1 or higher
  • Kokomi is not driving Beidou

OR

  • You don’t want to mess with animation cancels

N2C

While the DPS is comparable to Kokomi’s other combos, even surpassing them easily in AoE scenarios, this combo is generally not used for DPS due to its high stamina cost. Primarily used for its Hydro application since the CA has a separate ICD from the NAs. Use if:

  • Breaking a Pyro shield
  • Driving Sukokomon team
  • Kokomi is being used to proc Blooms

Summary

Kokomi is a versatile Hydro healer who can serve as an on-field DPS or an off-field Hydro applicator. Her versatility allows her to be used in many teams, including Taser, Freeze, Sukokomon and a variety of Bloom-based teams. She works well with F2P weapons such as Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers or Hakushin Ring. Her artifact sets are similarly varied, from Tenacity of the Millelith to Ocean-Hued Clam to even Gilded Dreams when she’s triggering Blooms; Kokomi uses a different flavor of artifacts depending on the scenario. Pulling Kokomi means bringing a strong Hydro support and healer for all flavors of Genshin.
